Spring is officially here now, although those of us in Northern California have been experiencing so much rain it is often hard to tell.  Let's hope that we can start leaving our umbrellas behind soon!

One of the biggest challenges my coaching clients face is how to live a balanced life, especially between their career and having time and energy for their personal lives.  My guess is that this topic is of importance to you as well, so I hope you enjoy this month's feature article below.  Feel free to share it with your employees, colleagues, friends and family, too!

Feature Article:  8 Steps to a Balanced Life

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being completely balanced, how balanced does your life feel right now?   What would be different about you, your work and your personal life if you were living a more balanced life?  These are the first questions to ask so that you can start creating the balanced life you desire. 

Below is an overview of the 8 steps in our new "Create the Balanced Life You Desire" self study program.  The audio CD and workbook go into much greater detail on each of these steps, so if you're interested in taking these steps to the next level by truly creating the balanced life you desire, check out the self-study program at http://www.goalsinsight.com/products.htm .

1.  Define Balance -- What does "Balance" mean to you?
(the CD/workbook gives some definitions and asks you to consider the different ways in which you experience Balance in your life)
2.  Explore each area of your life (work, family, friends, etc.) for Balance -- Where are you in balance?  Where are you out of balance?
(the CD/workbook gives you 10 categories to review and rate, as well as questions to consider about the ratings so you can have a complete overview of your life)
3.  Clarify the importance of a balanced life -- Why is Balance important to you?  What are your core values that relate to your leading a balanced life? 
(the CD/workbook gives you 8 questions to consider about how your values relate to your "wants," "shoulds," and the daily choices you make.
4.  Create the vision for a balanced life -- How would your life be different if you felt more balanced on a regular basis?  How much more successful would you be at work if you were more balanced?
(the CD/workbook walks you through a powerful visualization exercise where you create your own vision of a truly balanced life and answer 11 questions to help you solidify that vision)
5.  Handle the obstacles -- What are the obstacles that get in your way?  How  do you want to handle the obstacles that prevent you from maintaining balance in your life?
(the CD/workbook provides the 10 most common obstacles faced by my coaching clients, along with 8 strategies to handle the obstacles that arise and a template for you to create a plan to handle the obstacles that you anticipate will prevent you from creating the balance you want moving forward)
6.  Design your "Balanced Life Action Plan" -- What are the specific goals you will set in order to achieve the balanced life you desire?
(the CD/workbook provides you with the tools and an easy-to-use template to design the specific goals necessary for you to create the balanced life you so desire)
7.  Create a support structure -- Who in your life can you ask to help support you and hold you accountable to the action plan you have created for a truly balanced life?
(the CD/workbook gives you the tools and information needed to identify the people who will provide what you need to maintain the balance you desire, as well as the frequency that is needed in order to maintain momentum)
8.  Commit to your "Balance Plan" -- How committed are you to your plan?  What needs to happen to fully commit so you can achieve your Balance goals?
(the CD/workbook provides 4 questions for you to explore and solidify your commitment to the balanced life you desire)
