Feature Article:  How Are You Beginning This Year?

December was a time to reflect on all of our learnings from the past year, as well as successes and "failures", as you may remember from that newsletter.  Now we're in January, a time of new beginnings and a time to integrate all of those wonderful December learnings into your planning and intention setting for the coming year.

The beginning of 2007 is here - you've had a couple of weeks to get settled into the new year.  How is it going so far?  Are you creating the results you want most at work and at home?  Let's take some time now to help ensure your success in 2007!  You'll be surprised at the richness that comes with allowing yourself the gift of this reflection time.

Find a quiet place to do this exercise, perhaps in nature somewhere, or at least some place where you will not be interrupted.  Bring a journal or something with which to take notes as you go through this process.

WORK:
1.  What are your top 3 goals or intentions for 2007 in your work?  Why are those important to you?  How will you measure your success?  How will you celebrate those "wins" once those intentions and goals turn into reality?  Notice we are not talking about "New Year's Resolutions" for 2007 - we are talking about intentions and goals that have true MEANING for you because they are based on your values and priorities.
2.  Who do you want to BE at work in 2007?  Many times we just focus on what we want to DO, but consciously considering who you want to "show up" as at work is just as important.  Who will you be as a leader?  Who will you be as a team member?  How will you show up authentically at work?
3.  What are your most important values that must be honored at work this year?  If work-life balance is important to you, then NOW is the time to create it!  Be sure to look at other values that might be important to you at work, and make sure those will get honored in your 2007 goals/intentions.
4.  How have you integrated your biggest learnings from last year into your goals and intentions for 2007?  Check to make sure that your top 3 goals or intentions will help position you for a year of success by integrating what you learned in 2006.
5.  What impact will you have on your team this year?  How will you interact with your team members and other colleagues?  What impact will that have on your team's relationship dynamics?  How will you impact your team's results this year?  How will you contribute to their success?
6.  How will you help your team celebrate your team's "wins" this year?  Remember the importance of celebrating your team's successes!  When you and your team are successful in accomplishing your goals and intentions, be sure to celebrate.

PERSONAL:

1.  What are your top 3 goals or intentions for 2007 in your personal life?  Why are those important to you?  How will you measure your success?  How will you celebrate those "wins" once those intentions and goals turn into reality?
2.  Who do you want to BE at home in 2007?  Who will you be as a friend?  Who will you be as a parent?  Who will you be as a significant other?  Give some careful consideration as to how you want to show up in your personal life so that you and all of your loved ones benefit from your interactions.
3.  What are your most important values that must be honored in your personal life in 2007?
4.  How have you integrated your biggest learnings from last year into your goals and intentions for 2007?  Check to make sure that your top 3 goals or intentions will help position you for a year of success by integrating what you learned in 2006. at home as well as at work
5.  What impact will you have on the world in 2007?  Think BIG!
6.  How will you celebrate your personal successes this year?  Reward yourself for all of your successes.

Best wishes for a wonderfully meaningful and successful 2007 in ALL ways!
If you get stuck in this process or if you want some help to ensure that your 2007 intentions and goals are truly MEANINGFUL, we've developed a helpful resource that walks you through the process, step-by-step.  "Powerful Goal Setting:  6 Steps to Meaningful Business & Personal Achievement" is a audio and workbook program - check it out on our "Products" page at www.goalsinsight.com/products/index.html .
